All About Dermaplaning

If you follow the skin care and wellness trends then you have probably heard of dermaplaning.  Dermaplaning has been around for years but in the past several months has become an increasingly popular cosmetic procedure.  Dermaplaning is an exfoliation procedure that removes the top layer of skin.  It is also one of the easiest and safest ways to remove facial vellum hair.  Dermaplaning skin can help get rid of dead skin build up that makes our skin look dull.  It is also great to help reduce the signs of acne and aging.

When done by a professional, facial dermaplaning can give you smooth clean skin free of “vellum” peach fuzz hair.  When we remove the top layer of skin it pushes the cells to regenerate and make up for what was lost.  This leads to healthier skin and can reduce the signs of acne scars, fine lines, and wrinkles.  Furthermore, when the dead skin cells and vellum hairs are removed it allows for a deeper penetration of serums and other products that we use in our daily skin care routines.  An added benefit is that makeup settles more easily and looks more natural on skin that has undergone a dermaplaning treatment.

One of the best things about facial dermaplaning is that it is beneficial for almost all skin types.  The only times dermaplaning should be avoided are if you have any cuts, infections, or cold sores on your face.  Or if you are currently suffering from severe acne with large pustules or nodules there are better treatments for your skin.

After the procedure is finished you will see immediate results.  There is no downtime/ recovery time after a dermaplaning procedure so you will immediately be able to go about your day and show off your results.  This procedure should be performed every four to six weeks in order to give enough time to complete the vellum hairs’ growth cycle.  It should be noted that despite common misconception this procedure will not make your peach fuzz hair grow back thicker or darker.

While facial dermaplaning is not a procedure that should be performed at home, when done by a licensed professional this treatment can yield amazing results.  Here at Skin Deep we are proud to say our team leader Chrissy is licensed in Dermaplaning.  She will create a customized facial that is best for your skin type and skin care goals.  If you have any questions about getting this procedure done please send us a message!
